Learn to properly dice an onion with no tears!
The secret to dicing an onion with no tears is all in the root. If you cut off the root, the onion will start to “bleed”, which will cause you to tear up in no time at all.
Slice the onion lengthwise through the root.
Cut off the bulb, which is on the opposite end of the root.
Peel back the skin and discard.
Slice the onion crosswise, getting as close to the root as possible, without cutting through it.
Make a second crosswise cut being careful not to cut through the root.
Make up and down slices across the onion, getting as close to the root as possible without cutting through it.
Grip the onion like a tennis ball, holding it together, slice across the up and down slices creating small dices.
There you have it, properly diced onion with no waste and no tears!
