I am super excited to announce our very first giveaway! My microplane is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets. It takes tedious kitchen tasks and makes them easy as pie!
The most obvious use for a microplane is zesting citrus fruits. Freshly zested citrus adds concentrated bursts of flavor to almost any dish. The great thing about a microplane is that the holes are so tiny you can easily avoid the pith (the bitter white part of the skin) of the fruit. Believe me, you don’t want any part of the pith. I once decided to used a zested lemon, rather than a sliced lemon with the peel in a Gravy recipe, and it was totally ruined. I had to use boxed gravy on Thanksgiving 😭 Remember, if you’re going to use the juice of the citrus, be sure to zest first and juice second. It’s really hard to zest a juiced lemon!
I don’t know about you, but finely chopping garlic is one of my least favorite things to do. You can so easily run your garlic cloves across the microplane and have really finely grated garlic. Or, peel your ginger and zest it to cut through those tough, stringy fibers and create a fine paste.
A microplane is great for grating hard cheeses like parmesan, asiago, or even a big chunk of cheddar. Say goodbye to that clunky box grater, there’s a new sheriff in town!
Do you need just a tiny bit of cinnamon or nutmeg? Don’t break out the spice grinder, use your handy dandy microplane! I’m telling you, this is seriously one of the best kitchen gadgets ever created!
Just look at those beautiful flecks of chocolate. The microplane makes it so incredibly easy to garnish your favorite dessert or drink!
