Beat the heat this fourth of July with my creamy dreamy tropical strawberry milkshake! What could be better on a hot summer day than ice cream, strawberries, coconut milk, and whipped cream?!
The secret to the perfect milkshake is the correct ratio of ice cream to milk. You really only need a small amount of milk, otherwise your shake will be too runny, and nobody wants a runny milkshake! Be sure to use vanilla ice cream as the base no matter what flavor you want to make. Using strawberry ice cream for a strawberry shake or chocolate ice cream for a chocolate shake can cause your shake to be too sweet. Instead, let your flavor come from strawberries or chocolate syrup. You never want to add ice to your milkshake either. That will dilute the shake and rob you of the creamy texture of the ice cream and the rich flavors that you have added.
To flavor my tropical strawberry milkshake, I used strawberries that I macerated in a small amount of sugar and coconut milk. I was unsure if kids would like the coconut milk, so I used my favorite taste tester to give me his opinion.
Two thumbs up on the coconut milk! The coconut milk doesn’t make the shake taste like coconut. Instead, it adds a depth of flavor it wouldn’t have with regular cows milk, and gives it a tropical flavor.
I can’t think of any better way to celebrate the independence of our country than with a thick, creamy, delicious tropical strawberry milkshake! Here’s to a safe and happy 4th of July!
